How We Can Help
We will discuss with you our recommended treatment plan, designed to help your musculoskeletal conditions, including pain/stiffness in the neck, back, shoulders, hips, knees and other joints. We are also very successful at treating most types of headaches. The treatment we offer you will not only be dependent on the discomfort you are experiencing but also other factors such as your medical history and lifestyle.
Here are some of the things we use in your treatment plan:
Chiropractic Adjustments (also known as spinal manipulative therapy): This is the hallmark treatment offered in a chiropractic office. The purpose of a chiropractic adjustment is to restore proper function to poorly functioning and poorly aligned segments of the spine (the spine has 24 segments and over 150 joints) and pelvis, as well as other joints in the body. Dr. Olsen employs a number of methods to perform these adjustments. For those familiar with chiropractic techniques, Dr. Olsen specifically uses Diversified Technique (manual manipulation, the most commonly used technique by chiropractors), drop-table technique, Activator technique, Cox technique (involving a table that swivels to help reduce pressure in spinal joints), and varied myofascial release techniques.
Custom-Fit Orthotics: After analyzing your feet and walking gait, Dr. Olsen may find it necessary to fabricate custom orthotic shoe inserts to adjust faulty foot structure or poor body mechanics. Inefficient foot placement can adversely affect your back resulting in pain and muscle tension, not to mention painful feet!
Exercise Therapy: As chiropractic adjustments restore normal motion patterns to spinal joints, a mobility and exercise program is often necessary to help you strengthen and stabilize the spine and other joints. We will assist you in learning what exercises and therapies are best to gently heal and strengthen the body. We do some exercise therapy in-house and maintain referral relationships with several physical therapists and personal trainers for patients who need more of these services than we currently offer in our clinic.
Electrical Muscle Stimulation: This treatment modality delivers mild electrical currents that are applied to areas of muscle sprain/strain, inflammation, or pain. It’s very useful in alleviating pain and muscle spasm.
We believe it is important that you understand what is going on with your body and how we can help to improve your health. During your treatment at our office, we will help to enhance your understanding of anatomy, how exercise affects the muscles and other structures, why we have pain, how important nutrition and hydration are to overall health, how mindset and emotions affect us physically, and how to cope with stress.
