Slipped or Herniated Discs

This is a very common cause of lower back (lumbar) pain and sometimes neck/shoulder/arm pain. It is important to note that the discs of the spine do not actually “slip.”  However, they can become misshaped.  This can lead to a disc “bulge” or “herniation” which can either rub against or pinch a nerve, causing severe back pain and sometimes numbness, weakness, or pain in the arms or legs.   It is a condition we treat on a regular basis in our office.  A spinal reconditioning program is implemented to restore proper function to the affected area.  The program includes chiropractic adjustments of the spine, lumbar traction, electrical muscle stimulation (to alleviate pain), and rehabilitative exercise therapy.
